Old Moji Customs/Kitakyushu International Commermorative Library/Kankobussankan Minato House (Tourist Product Port House)/Mojiko Retro Observatory
In 1909 Nagasaki Customs was separated to establish Moji Customs and later the single-story brick wall with tile roof government office was built in 1912. After 15 years of being used the office moved to Nishikaigan-Dori when the building was sold to the private enterprise and used as an office or warehouse. This Renaissance building of an old Moji Customs which is symbolic to Kitakyushu-city was acquired by the city in 1994. The building was repaired to be a tourist facility until present.
On the first floor there are lounge, exhibition hall and coffee shop (Retro Café), and the second floor is the observatory room.

In 1902, the imperial government of Russia built the German style architecture in Dalian which was reproduced to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Kitakyushu and Dalian sister-city signing in 1994. The building is of German descent half-timber style with the contrast of brown and white color. There is a library of East-Asian literature and materials on the second floor, and exhibition corner of Dalian-city on the third floor. There are many French classical baroque or art nouveau buildings in Dalian that made this German style building very special. The German architects were invited by Russia and the building became one of the most valuable works of German architects in Eastern Asia.

This tourist product house opened in July 1988. On the first floor there is variety of local foods from Kitakyushu and Shimonoseki, as well as seafood products from other strait cities like Aomori or Hakodate, There is also a tourist information, souvenir stores and deli to takeout deep-fried blowfish. On the second floor there is a spacious restaurant with high ceiling for relaxed dining.

Mojiko Retro Observatory is located on the 31st floor of the high apartment building, ‘Retro Hi-Mart’ which was designed by an architect, Kisho Kurokawa. The 270-degree of panoramic views at 103m high is phenomenal. In the observatory room there is lounge with comfortable chairs and counters as well as a café/bar Le Ciel to relax while viewing. There are digital periscopes ‘ISTEA’ that allow 17 magnifications. The observatory is a great spot to see the whole of Kanmon Strait as well as the beautiful town of Mojiko Retro.
